Celebrating the primitive yet pristine the physical make-up of these pieces are derived or inspired by the very forces of nature which surround us. Design can be functional, daring, conventional or even unintentional however it is almost always “inspired” by something.
The Elemental focus for 2016 celebrates pieces that are partly manufactured by mother earth; constructed from remnants and/or fragments of what she has left behind in her wake or grown from her abundant soil. This story speaks to the natural fibers, live-edge barks, stone, rope, and natural compounds that live on through design to enrich our life with their aesthetic beauty and functionality.
There’s no substitute for good lighting – Period. The vibrancy of Spring and Summer bring bold colors and sunshiny days whereas Fall and Winter invite more subtle tones and nuances. Dare to be different and robust in your design choices – go ahead and be unapologetically romantic or wonderfully playful with your lighting options this year.
We choose to set the scene with interior lighting that creates a warm, dark and sexy atmosphere – dimmable organic wall sconces, soft luxurious fabric + leather accented table + floor lamps and vibrant orbs of hand-blown glass that exude a delicate romantic glow. Whatever the mood the choices are abundant and the payoff rewarding.
We have been big fans of the whole Rough Luxe movement since it began – a study in contradictions, an attempt to reconcile the old with the contemporary, the accumulated with the newly acquired, the decrepit with the pristine. It is artful dissonance. Industrial Chic is an extension of that expression and design concept, which much like the RL movement celebrates the imperfect, beaten, weathered and used.
It takes these roots and revitalizes them with a juxtaposition of luxe fabrics, polished metals and new materials breathing new life into an already solid foundation – the result is an impressive and visually captivating aesthetic that we like to call Industrial Chic.
