MICKALENE THOMAS Candy Crush 2013 – Mickalene Thomas—renowned for her powerful fusion of art history, politics, and pop culture—creates vivid figurative and abstract worlds through collage, photography, and immersive installation. Candy Crush, her limited-edition hand-knotted rug, is adapted from a unique photo-drawing collage created specifically for this project. Its free-form silhouette and layered visual references are brought to life through multiple pile heights, intricate carving, and five months of artisan craftsmanship. Each piece in the edition is inherently one-of-a-kind. Echoing the textiles, wallpaper, and décor central to Thomas’ iconic installations, Candy Crush transforms her dynamic visual language into a sculptural, tactile artwork.
